Creating beauty, not waste: AKS is carbon neutral!
In honor of Earth Day, we want to update you on our continuous efforts to be environmentally friendly. Our sustainability journey continues with a climate action partnership with Green Circle Salons. Starting this year, we are officially carbon neutral!
A little background on our Green Circle partnership
The beauty industry creates 877lbs of waste per minute. We have worked with Green Circle Salons for years to lessen our impact: recycling plastic, paper, metals, excess hair color, hair clippings (who knew this was possible?), and most recently PPE.
If you’ve ever noticed our assistant Stephanie scooping the excess dye into a container or emptying the hair vacuum, this is where it goes. From our beauty waste, comes compost, clean energy, car parts/bicycles, insulation, products for humanitarian efforts and much more. Afforestation Carbon Offset Project - San Jose, Nicaragua
Through Green Circle Salons, our studio is proud to support the Afforestation Project in San Jose, Nicaragua.
This project has planted more than 1 million plants of a native species of giant clumping bamboo, covering 2,361 hectares while protecting an additional 1,000 hectares of old forest as a conservation zone. The project contributes to mitigation by preventing deforestation and capturing CO2 as well as to adaptation by reducing temperatures, creating micro-climates, supporting a low-carbon economy and creating livelihoods for vulnerable communities.
Carbon neutrality means that the carbon footprint of a company, product, service or event has been calculated on the basis of internationally recognized standards and fully offset by supporting certified carbon offset projects.
Refill | Reuse | Recycle
In a previous newsletter and blog post, we detailed our mission to ditch single-use plastic and only stock products in reusable glass, aluminum, or compostable packaging.
Our refill bar is set up and the process is going very well! Refill your favorite products or try something new. If you’d like to try a package-free route, we carry shampoo, conditioner, soap, and lotion bars in compostable containers.
